JUDIT LANTOS

About me

Lantos Judit lives and works in Szentendre, a nice town 20 km north to Budapest. She works as a ceramist since 1988. She used to work in different workshops of ceramic artists, where she learned the basic technical procedures. (Throwing, slip casting, pressing, coiling and mould making.)

Nowdays she creates her objects for everyday use and for exhibitions by slip casting.

She works with clay as well as porcelain.

She did her exam as a ceramist in 2003. Since then she works as an individual ceramist in her own studio.

She is inspired by several ways of ceramic art. She loves creating pure design objects. Some of these objects are sometimes a little bit strange and grotesque.

Besides she likes the colorful objects of the 60's and 70's. These retro pieces are covered by mostly self made glazes. She uses craquellé and crawling glazes, and experiments with strange looking glazes.

As raw materials she uses simple red clay and low temperature slip casting Creaton masses.These are burned on 1040 C°. in an electric kiln. At high temperature she uses slip casting porcelain masses from Limoges. The pieces made from it are burned at 1200 C°. in an electric kiln.

Her works can be found in several galleries.

Her exhibition pieces and everyday objects are often shown in the Hungarian "Elle Dekor".

She is a static member of WAMP (Wasárnapi Művészpiac- Sunday Artfairs). Here she can be seen, and her newest collection can be bought every month.

In 2006 she organised The Company of the Ceramists of Szentendre. As the president of the group she exhibites her works in the company of 18 other ceramic artists.

She calles her exhibition pieces "Ready Remade" objects. Objects that exist in real life are re-created in porcelain by different sometimes reather extreme ways.
The main inspiration of her work comes from the music and texts of Nick Cave.
